Chapter 12
I held an ice pack to my shoulder. My mom had wrapped gauze around the deep cuts after Mythia thoroughly cleaned them out. The toxins from demon claws didn't leave any lasting damage for either me or Stella.
Stella had left half an hour ago after eating two lobster rolls. I worried at some point this was going to be too much for my friend. She was handling this like a champ, but now she had a taste of how dangerous it could be.
Iâd called in Clio, who was the covenâs healer. She applied salves to both of us that had done wonders for us, but they didnât make the wounds go away. Stella was going to have to tell her husband something. Todd seemed like a good guy, but I had no idea how he would accept that his wife was a witch now. I prayed he wasnât a jackass to her like Miles would have been.
âSo, the Tainted are calling weak demons through the veil because you guys donât track them?â When Aidoneus told us that piece of information, I was shocked.
âIt seems that way, but like I said, no one understands why theyâre doing this or if it will continue. My team and I are working on a solution to the problem. In the meantime, we need to be vigilant. They were definitely trying to exploit the tear they sensed in this location. You will be safe as long as you donât obliterate my patch.â
I held up my hands, the ice pack in one of them. âI had no idea that would happen. How is that possible? I would think as a God your mojo would be impervious.â
Aidoneus lifted one brow and gave me a smirk. âMy mojo is usually impervious to magic like yours. Thereâs something about you that drives me crazy. Perhaps itâs that weakness that makes it possible for you to dismantle my spell.â
My cheeks heated along with other, more intimate parts of my body when he mentioned him having a weakness for me. âIâll take that as a compliment. Please tell me we donât have little demon dogs running around town. I have missing ghosts and magical objects to locate, along with a missing coven member. I donât have time to chase them down.â
Aidoneus tugged my clean t-shirt aside and looked at the wound on my shoulder. Nina gasped, and Nana snickered, telling me they both assumed he would do something else.
He ignored them and kept his heated Sapphire eyes on me. âI donât sense any in town, but I will be doing a thorough search. Leave the demons to me.â
âI hope I never have to face another one. As a God, do you happen to have an in with the ghosts? I need to find them and feel like I've been on a wild goose chase. Any chance you can snap your fingers and bring them to me?â
I hadnât wanted to ask for help, but the situation seemed to grow with each passing second, so I caved.
